Since a blog is public, and people like privacy, I thought it would be best to give people I know code names. They are bound to pop up in some form or other, so why not just assign them code names so they will stay constant? That way, they won't just be 'my friend' or 'my other friend' or 'that girl who is also my friend.'
My family is easy: Mom, Dad, Brother. Moving on.
All of my female friends have been assigned colors in my head. This isn't something I invented for this blog. I honestly associate my female friends with colors. For instance, PurpleFriend and I have known each other since diapers. We tend to think of each other as two parts of one whole, and neither of us could survive long without the other half of our brain. WhiteFriend and RedFriend have also been around since toddlerhood, so you can imagine that we are a pretty tight-knit little group.
But over time, we have added more to our close circle. BlueFriend came along in seventh grade, when I asked to borrow her pen, and that obviously meant we were best friends. Then GreenFriend moved to Nashville from Kentucky. At first, GreenFriend and I despised one another. We are far too much alike to have had an easy friendship. But while we were on a trip with a large group, it was storming by the river, and from our place beneath the shelter, we both looked up and saw a bolt of purple lightning strike the hill. You can't argue with an experience like that. We are now as close as sisters.
Next came OrangeFriend and YellowFriend. OrangeFriend was a very good friend of a boy we'd known for years, and even when OrangeFriend and OldFriend weren't friends anymore, we girls kept in touch with her. And YellowFriend was an instant hit, with her ability to make you feel like you are the only two people in the world that matter when you're hanging out with her.
And the last addition to our crew was PinkFriend, who came in our junior year of high school. She had never had a group of friends quite as crazy or devoted as us, but she quickly learned that we are a hoarde you get stuck with. PinkFriend married my ex-boyfriend (I was a bridesmaid, and I will be the godmother of one of their children. Isn't life funny that way?). Because PinkFriend is basically my sister, that makes the hubster Ex-BF-In-Law.
When I got to college, I met BrownFriend. BrownFriend is beautiful, sweet, and intelligent. She will be a pediatrician when she grows up. And she could kick your butt, because she's a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Basically, she rocks.
Then there are the youngsters I keep up with. TurtleFriend, Redhead, GoodHugs, SweetThing and MusicalHair are some such friends.
There are other boys of importance, of course. OldFriend and Ex-BF-in-Law being two of them, you might also hear about TwinOne and OtherTwin, who roomed with OldFriend and Ex-BF-in-Law, and have history with the whole group. Another one like that is TheBother, who is like a brother to me, and who shows affection by pushing your buttons endlessly. You'll probably hear about ArmyEx, who is in fact another ex-boyfriend, a little more recent than the other. And you'll probably hear about BlueEyes. I imagine you'll hear about him a lot.
So there's your basic overview. I hope you aren't overwhelmed by the sheer number of people that are likely to be mentioned in my posts. And I didn't even tell you about my cats, whom we'll call Thing1 and Thing2. Well, I guess I did now.
Whatever, I think that covers it. Don't worry if you get them confused. I probably will, too.
